This is my second copy of this book. Earlier, I purchased the 3rd Edition, which was a much lighter book. However, when I started looking for it, it was nowhere to be found.
This book starts at the beginning -- what is a web page, works through HTML/XHTML, formatting, lists, links, styles including Cascading Style Sheets, tables, images, frames, and even WML for web-enabled cell phones. Some particularly neat features are the the XHTML, CSS and colors appendices. This one will be a reference for a long time, as it is easy to find topics and related examples.
The style of HTML for the World Wide Web makes all the difference in quickly finding and quickly understanding the topics. Each page is formatted to two columns and is dedicated to one topic. The outer column (towards the edge of the book) covers the topic, tips, and issues with different browsers. The inner column is example code and example output, both with color coding to identify the unique aspects of that topic.
The bottom line
This book is aimed at the novice to intermediate who wants to learn HTML. It is also great as a quick reference book. It is filled with simple examples of the individual code elements and tips for their use. I liked it enough to buy a copy of a new edition and got my money's worth.
