This book is aimed at the novice to intermediate who wants to learn HTML. It is filled with simple examples of the individual code elements and tips for their use. The design of this Visual Quickstart Guide is part of its success. The book takes no more than one or two pages to present any focussed topic. Each page has an outside colum and a column by the spine. The outside column describes the HTML tag, CSS code or whatever, including tips for using it. The inside column is used for a detailed example of that topic and description of the example. The back cover is actually a foldout of complementary colors with their RGB color codes.
I liked the book enough to buy a copy of a new edition. I got my money's worth. The complete review.
This book reminds me of a survey course -- it is a broad brush across the field of web development. The authors intended this book to provide a basic level of knowledge of the various ways to do web development, so that an inexperienced web developer can make intelligent decisions about which languages to learn and use. It succeeds admirably in this role.
The authors occasionally inject some pertinent, off-beat humor, just to make sure we are paying attention. I liked it. It also covers things like "server side includes" that are realtime functions your webpage can cause the Apache web server to do, like "shtml" inclusion of HTML code from other files. The complete review.
I recommend these web design books
